Base Plate Example
The base plate is assumed to cantilever about axes a distance m or n from the edge of the plate. The required base plate thickness, treq , is given by the larger value obtained from the following formulas, see Figure 4
Where: F = yield stress, B = base plate width,
N = base plate length, b = flange width of column, d = depth of column, P = axial force in member
Note: λ may be conservatively taken as 1.0.
